Componate One: A few weeks ago, I started the Abhorsen Trilogy by Garth Nix. The first book is titled "Sabriel," and I quickly moved on to the second (Lirael) and third (Abhorsen) in the series.
Since then, they have become some of my favorite books in what can best be described as dark fantasy; thrilling, imaginative, and original in scope and concept.

Componate Two: Usually whenever I sit down to work on a composition, I'll do a series of "warm-up" exercises to loosen up the hand and wrist.

Resulting In: As I was engaged in "loosening up," I soon found myself drawing Sabriel, whose weapons include seven bells of various sizes (and personalities) and a sword.
Keep in mind that this is only a concept sketch, and will be refined and modified further before the finished drawing that the ink will rest upon.

A special thanks goes out to :iconwoodenpress: for telling me about this wonderful series! If you haven't read them, do so.

Ah, Sabriel! I never read the books before, but I've seen the cover art and this is very evocative of her. I really love the hatching inside of her cloak and the suggestion of her lower body, which was what drew my eye. Wonderful arc you've got there, Bob! Another excellent work from you - I'm not surprised by it. :)

I love those books to death, Garth Nix is one of my favorite authors. I highly suggest some of his other works: The Ragwitch and Shade's Children are really good but the abhorsen books are my favorites.
You did an amazing job portraying her. Can't wait to see the final product :)

Concept sketch... Yeesh. I wish my finished work looked this good.

Very dynamic perspective. I really like it and look forward to further iterations.
