Description
Original Size: 7.5x10
Medium: Brush, Quill & Ink
Copyright Notice: 2007 by Bob Giadrosich/Sharayah Press. All Rights Reserved.
One of sixteen illustrations for an epic narrative poem entitled Red Snow, depicting the same character I created in Shield Maiden and the battle scene Red Snow.
I knew that I wanted to do a close-up from the back of a central character in the story (to view the aftermath of the battle), and then, having penciled in most of the details of the composition, I realized that she was wearing chain-mail in the other shots...
Now, drawing chain-mail up close was not really what I had in mind, but here I was. I do know what real chain-mail looks like.
This is not it. Consider this a half-breed fantasy version, 'cause there was no way I was going to interlock every link.
60+ hours went into this one, which caused me to reflect on the words of Boromir in the movie The Fellowship of the Ring, where he states:
"It is a strange fate that we should suffer so much fear and doubt over so small a thing. Such a little thing."
I've gone off rings for a while...

Still, the intricacy of the "chainmail" is stunning.
I've only just discovered your work this Inktober and am glad that there are many more works to see. :D
Thank you for having this Deviant page. Am quite inspired.
